You Don’t Need a Full Reset. You Need Fewer Decisions.
Every March, the internet starts whispering:
Reset.
Declutter.
Glow up.
Optimize.
And while I love a fresh start as much as anyone, I think most of us don’t need a full reset.
We need fewer decisions.
Because decision fatigue is one of the biggest hidden drains in modern motherhood and adult life.
The Hidden Weight of Daily Decisions
Think about how many choices you make in a single day:
What’s for breakfast?
What should I wear?
What are we having for dinner?
Did I order more toothpaste?
Should I answer that text now?
What time should I work out?
Do I have time to clean that?
It’s constant.
And when your brain is overloaded, everything feels harder than it is.
That’s why simplifying decisions changes everything.
The 5% Rule Applied to Decisions
Instead of reworking your entire lifestyle, reduce the number of daily choices you have to make.
Ask:
What decisions can I remove this week?
Not forever.
Just this week.
Practical Ways to Reduce Decisions
1. Repeat Meals
Choose:
• 3 breakfasts
• 5 dinners
• 2 lunches
Rotate them. That’s it.
No scrolling Pinterest at 4:30pm.
No reinventing dinner every night.
I plan and shop on Sundays, but do what works for you.
2. Simplify Groceries
Grocery pickup.
Auto-ship essentials.
Same list every week.
Less wandering.
Less impulse.
Less mental load.
I make a list, and my husband shops at Aldi and Big Y. He is great at finding the deals, and I think we save money without me and the kids there. I also have things autoshipped like protein powder, olive oil, and toothpaste so we aren’t overspending.
3. Standardize Your Morning
Same wake-up order.
Same breakfast.
Same coffee rhythm.
Routine reduces friction.
4. Capsule-ISH Closet
Not a full capsule wardrobe.
Just fewer options you actually wear.
Five go-to outfits removes so much morning stress.
5. Stop DIY’ing Everything
You are allowed to buy the bread.
Buy the broth.
Buy the snack.
Energy is a resource.
I have a few things I love making (bread and salad dressing), but everything else I buy!
The Truth About “Reset Culture”
Full resets feel productive.
But they’re often just socially acceptable overwhelm.
We add:
• new rules
• new habits
• new restrictions
And then we’re surprised when we can’t maintain it.
Simplicity isn’t lazy.
It’s strategic.
Sustainable Living Is Boring , and That’s the Point
Repeating meals is boring.
Wearing the same outfits is boring.
Going to bed early is boring.
And boring is stable.
Stable creates calm.
Calm creates capacity.
Capacity creates long-term change.
Before You Reset, Ask This
What would make this week 5% easier?
Not more impressive.
Not more optimized.
Easier.
That might be:
• repeating meals
• skipping a commitment
• lowering a standard
• simplifying your expectations
You don’t need a dramatic spring.
You need fewer decisions and more breathing room.
Start there.
Share your thoughts.
